By introducing its Water Services unit, TÜV SÜD is entering an emerging global growth market. At Hannover Messe, the international provider of testing and certification services will be showcasing its activities in fields such as sea water desalination, infrastructure and smart water grid applications for the first time (sharing a booth with Metropolitan Solutions, Hall 1, Stand E16). The Director of TÜV SÜD's new Water Services unit is Dr Andreas Hauser.
"Against the backdrop of the growing world population, increasing urbanisation and climate change, sustainable and secure water supplies will become one of the central future challenges", says Dr Andreas Hauser, Director of Water Services at TÜV SÜD. Fresh water and waste-water infrastructures must be developed, expanded and modernised. This applies particularly to the fast-growing cities and megacities in China, India and the Middle East, but also to developed regions such as the USA. "Enormous efforts and investments will have to be made", warns Dr Hauser. "Offering quality assurance and risk assessment and pointing out opportunities for improvement, our Water Services provide efficient, secure and sustainable solutions and a solid basis for decision-making in the planning and realisation of appropriate measures and projects." This particularly benefits investors, utilities, general contractors and suppliers as well as developers and vendors of innovative technologies, smart water applications being one of those.
"By offering our Water Services, we are transferring TÜV SÜD's comprehensive expertise and experience with industrial installations and complex infrastructure – for example, in the energy sector – to a new area", explains Stephan Hild, in charge of business development for the new unit. "At the start, we will focus on four major topical issues. These are: quality assurance and quality control during the construction of water-infrastructure projects; consultancy to optimise and improve the efficiency of potable water and waste-water infrastructure; and risk assessment and consulting services for smart water solutions.”
Dr Andreas Hauser, Head of Water Services, received his doctorate in Applied Mathematics in the field of High Performance Computing from IWR (Interdisciplinary Centre for Scientific Computing) of the University of Heidelberg. In 2006, Dr Hauser joined Siemens where he developed software solutions for gas and water systems. Two years later he was put in charge of the global "Clean Water" programme, heading the research teams in Germany, India, China and Singapore. From 2011 on, Dr Hauser was also head of Corporate Technology at Siemens in Singapore, where he drove the development of innovative technologies and activities in sustainable and smart water technologies. Dr Hauser has been in charge of developing and expanding global water business at TÜV SÜD since November 2012.
He is supported in his role by Stephan Hild, who contributes academic degrees in economic and environmental sciences and over 20 years of experience in international management, sales and marketing, to his function in business development. Stephan Hild joined TÜV SÜD in 2007, and was first responsible for business development of Carbon Management Services, under which TÜV SÜD has bundled all its activities related to the verification and certification of climate change projects, based on the Kyoto protocol. As a Gold Standard expert, Hild focused on the assessment of the social consequences and environmental impacts of these projects, in developing countries
