Effective immediately, TÜV SÜD Danmark is now a Notified Body which assesses compliance with interoperability requirements. Under this notification, TÜV SÜD Rail's Danish experts can now assess constituents and sub-systems for both conventional and high-speed lines for their compliance with Directive 2008/57/EC.
To ensure smooth cross-border rail service in Europe, the European Union defined "Technical Specifications for Interoperability (TSI)". These specifications among other things apply to rolling stock, infrastructure and energy as well as signalling and control systems. Certification of the compliance of new subsystems or constituents with the TSIs is provided by Notified Bodies.
In March, the Danish Transport Authority (Trafikstyrelsen) notified TÜV SÜD Danmark as a Notified Body Interoperability at the European Commission in Brussels, authorising it to carry out conformity assessment and certification covering all valid TSIs. At the same time, the authority appointed TÜV SÜD Danmark a Designated Body under Danish law. The appointments are based on the accreditation in accordance with ISO/IEC 17065 which was carried out by the Danish Accreditation and Metrology Fund DANAK earlier this year.
"The appointment of TÜV SÜD Danmark as a Notified Body brings the number of our Notified Bodies for Rail Transport in the TÜV SÜD Group up to three. This enables us to offer our clients even more flexible and effective support in the implementation of international rail projects", says Klaus Bosch, CEO of TÜV SÜD's Rail Division.
"This is a milestone in our Scandinavian strategy” explains Lars H. Brockhoff, Managing Director TÜV SÜD Danmark and continues “This enables TÜV SÜD to complete current certification projects under this new notification including the assessment of the high-speed lines Nordlänken in Sweden and Eidsvoll - Hamar in Norway as well as infrastructure projects of the lines Aalborg - Frederikshavn and Sydbanen in Denmark".
